2015 in Review

This year, 2015, has been a year of continued progression at Willow Downs. Our breeding program is continuing to advance, and our young horses are making their mark on Australian dressage. It is very rewarding to share in their journeys.

There is little doubt that the Olympic equestrian sports are facing one of their toughest times in history. A sport already struggling to stay attractive in a modern era, while recently receiving mixed media attention worldwide, is also at the mercy of wave after wave of economic uncertainty and the relentless threat of exotic and endemic equine diseases here in Australia.

Despite these tough times, Willow Downs has been able to continue to grow; and we consider ourselves very lucky. Here's to continued growth in 2016! And as always, watch this space!

Cheers,
Brent Eastwell

Fibonacci WD Sold

Fibonacci WD, the 4 year old gelding by Fisherman's Friend (imp) has been sold. We just received the news that he has arrived safely at his new home after a long journey, and we wish him and his new owner Natasha a long and prosperous future together!

Lauries Asset WD Sold

Lauries Asset WD, the 4 year old mare by Lauries As (imp) has been sold to dressage competitor Kym Palmer. Lauries Asset will join Kym and Glenn's dressage breeding program. This is the second horse that we have sold to Kym and Glenn, the first being Moonlight Blossom, who pioneered her own dam line here at Willow Downs. We wish Lauries Asset, Kym and Glenn the very best of success!

Vale Freya WD

Some sad news today. Last night Freya WD, the 5 year old mare by Fisherman's Friend (imp), suffered a serious bout of colic, and despite best efforts, could not be saved. It is particularly sad to lose Freya since her sire, Fisherman's Friend, as well as her dam's sire, Sequalo, also both died at the end of last year. Freya WD is survived by her only foal, a filly by Lauries As; ensuring that her legacy will live on at Willow Downs.

San Costa WD Sold

San Costa WD, the 5 year old gelding by San Rubin II (imp) has been sold to professional dressage rider and coach Joan Peachey. We cannot wait to see San Costa develop as a dressage horse over the coming years under Joan's expert guidance. Congratulations and good luck!

2014 in Review

Well, that was quick! 2014 has come to an end. It has been an exciting year at Willow Downs, with lots of achievements. As always it is exciting to bring another generation of horses under saddle, and a new batch of foals on the ground. Most notably this year, Harlequin Fox's first foal, Freya WD, gave us her first foal, a beautiful filly by Lauries As. "Lenaya WD" will very likely be retained at Willow Downs as a future broodmare prospect.

This coming year will see much of the same exciting progress, with a number of young horses already being prepared for sale, either unbroken or under saddle. Please keep an eye on this website over the coming months for announcements about these, and as always feel free to contact us anytime.

Cheers,
Brent Eastwell

2013 in Review

It is hard to believe that another year has come to an end. I was saddened a couple of years ago to hear of the death of the legendary Weltmeyer in Germany. The chestnut stallion has been a very important part of our breeding program, and we are incredibly fortunate to have added another Weltmeyer filly to our collection this year. "Wisteria WD" is out of Harlequin Fox, a combination that has previously produced "Wolfgang WD" and "Womina WD". While I'm on the topic of breeding success stories, I'm thrilled to see the success of De Niro continue throughout the past couple of years, with his rise in popularity and his rise to the top of the WBFSH dressage sire index. De Niro has been another important stallion in our breeding program over the past few years.

2014 will see a number of truely awe-inspiring young horses under saddle being made available for sale from the Willow Downs breeding program. If you are searching for your next superstar, please keep an eye on this website, and feel free to contact me about any of the horses we have for sale.

Cheers,
Brent Eastwell

2012 in Review

It has been a festival of fillies in 2012! Not a single colt was born at Willow Downs this year, which is the first time this has ever happened. This, of course, is wonderful news for us, as we are always hoping for fillies to retain in order to keep our breeding program progressive. This year Harlequin Fox passed on her trademark three white socks and star to a beautiful filly by the former Australian Grand Prix Champion Whisper (dec), while Moonlight Blossom has outdone herself by delivering an outstanding tall leggy filly by De Niro. It seems highly likely that both these fillies will join the numerous others in the paddocks at Willow Downs as candidates for future entry into the breeding program.

The stables have never been more full, with lots of exciting horses in training. I am incredibly lucky to have the assistance of the wonderful Isabella, who has been helping ensure that every horse gets the care and attention it deserves. We are currently preparing a number of horses for sale, and I will be updating this website over the coming months with information about each of them, so please check back here regularly for updates. If you are currently searching for your next equine partner, please feel free to contact me anytime to discuss the horses we have for sale, or to arrange a visit.

Cheers,
Brent Eastwell

Our Thanks!

Brent Eastwell and Willow Downs are delighted to announce the continued support of Showtime Saddlery. Showtime has been our one-stop-shop for everything equine since it first opened. The shop has recently launched a new website, where you can explore some of the range of products available and contact Showtime. The website, www.showtimesaddlery.net.au, will continue to be developed in the future.

After much research, and assistance from the very knowledgable Gina at Showtime, Brent is now riding his young horses in a Stubben Scandica, purchased from Showtime. Like most riders, he has searched endlessly for the perfect saddle. Brent says, "The Stubben Scandica is comfortable for me and for my horses. I immediately felt relaxed and well balanced in the Scandica, and I have seen an improvement in my horses as a result.
